~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michael “Flathead” Blanchard
A Celebration of the life of Michael “Flathead” Blanchard will be held on April 14th, 3 pm 8160 Rosemary St, Commerce City.
Weary of reading obituaries noting someone’s courageous battle with death, Mike wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors’ orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died.
Mike was born July 1944 in Colorado to Clyde and Ethel Blanchard. A community activist, he is noted for saving the Dr. Justina Ford house from demolition and defending those who could not defend themselves. He was a Republican delegate, life member of the NRA, founder and President of the Dead Cats MC. He loved music.
Mike was preceded in death by Clyde and Ethel Blanchard, survived by his beloved sons Mike and Chopper, former wife Jane Transue, brother Stephen Blanchard (Susan), Uncle Don and Aunt Cynthia Blanchard(his favorite); Uncle Dill and Aunt Dot, cousins and nephews, Baba Yaga can kiss his butt. So many of his childhood friends that weren’t killed in Vietnam went on to become criminals, prostitutes and/or Democrats. He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell. As the Celebration will contain Adult material we respectfully ask that no children under 18 attend. Published in the Denver Post on April 12,2012
Did the EPA Just Kill Big Coal?
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed a set of landmark greenhouse gas regulations that will surely have every coal country politician, from the hills to Appalachia to the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, sputtering mad. The rule will require new power plants to emit about 43 percent less carbon dioxide than today’s coal-fired generators. Natural gas plants already meet this requirement. But if a utility wants to burn coal for electricity, it will need to install carbon capture technology — and that’s really expensive.
“This standard effectively bans new coal plants,” one petulant lobbyist told The Washington Post.
And indeed, it could. But while that might be devastating for mining companies, it won’t mean a whole lot to consumers. Coal use, you see, is already in decline. Blame America’s natural gas boom.
In December, coal generated less than 40 percent of America’s electricity for the first time since March 1978, according to the Energy Information Administration. Even before the proposed greenhouse gas rules, Deutsch Bank predicted it would be producing as little as 20 percent by 2030. And Exxon Mobil forecasts that natural gas will replace coal as the U.S. top fuel for electricity by 2025.
Read more. [Image: U.S. Energy Information Administration]
A collection of all Ron Paul’s questions in the GOP debate.
I watched the Republican debate last night. I’d like to take this moment of review to focus on Ron Paul specifically, as there are a few things that really hit home to me.
I am not the smartest individual on our economic system, I don’t claim to know copious amounts of information, in regards to specific dates in history, I can’t pull numbers out of a hat full of answers that I’ve written down, I can’t show graphs or statistics at my whim, but I am also not a fool.
To give you briefs about myself, I am 21 years old, unemployed, actively looking for work — unrelated, I am fundamentally a Christian, from birth. I began my political interest as a Republican because of my parents. I then moved over to conservatism because of my ideals and my parents. I was a strong war supporter and just your quintessential easy-to-beat republican.
I vaguely listened to Ron Paul, due to a coworker, in 2006, and didn’t pay much attention. He began picking up more and more steam, so I began to listen to him more and more, adhering to his libertarian ideals. Presently, I find myself in 2011, being completely enamored by Dr. Paul, and I am writing this to explain why.
When I decide if I am for or against something, I go from my gut and fundamentals, as well as principles. I am always against gov’t interventionism, so I run it by the principle of if it will allow the individual to govern their situation themselves or not.
I find that my fundamental Christianity falls directly in line with Libertarianism; being I am responsible for my actions. Moreover, I may remain charitable, but never impose my ideals on others, especially should they reject it. I look back at my strict conservative days and recognize the appeal; It also falls in line with what looks like Christianity, but is more for the gov’t imposing conservative ideals.
Ron Paul made a very strong case on every answer he gave; Leave it up to people, churches, schools, and/or state (in a nutshell). In my private life, I never force my faith upon others, unless they specifically ask why I believe what I believe, and what it does for me.
Case by case, I am for Israel. However, Paul’s answer on Israel is how I feel all encompassing. They are responsible for their sovereignty, just as we are.
Foreign Aid In The Middle East: Paul said it was the principle that was wrong. We are bombing them, and supplying them. Can’t emphasize the hypocrisy enough.
Drugs: Legalize them. As against drugs as I am, Paul is right. We can’t legalize one aspect, and prohibit another, all the while expecting it to be perceived as constitutional. Moreover, his trust in the public to make their own decisions regarding its usage.
I’ll leave it at that. Socially speaking, his focus on our own economy gives me alot of hope in him. Ron Paul has my vote. Completely.
P.S. I also fancied Herman Cain. But going back to my earlier point about using the gov’t to enforce your own ideals; he’d be more likely to do it.
We need to look at the Federal Reserve system. - Dr Paul
